Made up of 33 people of all ages, the textile group MAZATZIN Textiles is located in the municipality of Cuetzalan del Progreso, north of the Mexican state of Puebla. "Quetzallan" that is synonymous in the Nahuatl language, "city of Quetzales" is one of the most important regions of the Sierra Norte de Puebla.

"MAZATZIN" in turn comes from the Nahuatl MAZAT = deer and TZIQUITZIN = small, for which "MAZATZIN" means "EL VENADITO". "Little deer" The objective of this group is to perpetuate the knowledge and traditions of textile art, in addition to seeking economic empowerment for the inhabitants of the region. These handmade practices are carried in constant harmony with the environment.

For example, the production of cotton, with which the waist loom is mainly made, requires a careful cutting of the cocoons, separating the cotton from the seeds, cleaning the cotton forming a kind of bed, with a stick cotton beds until they become solid, after which comes the first somewhat coarse yarn of the cotton, a second yarn to thin the yarn in cord and third yarn to make the yarn thinner and thinner. These last 3 processes are most tiring.

And a final process is the starching of the thread to be able to knit without breaking. With half-sewn corn dough and sun-dried. Processes can vary depending on the area, culture, tradition and place of residence of the craftsman.

Thank you for cooperating with us, soon you will be able to find your pieces on the e-shop.
